Novel Flame Retardant Polymer Aerogel with Exceptional Strength and Resilience
A novel flame retardant polymer aerogel with an unusual combination of strength and resilience was fabricated with chemical substance C and M via chemical cross-linking action through directional freeze-drying process.The resultant aerogel exhibited special anisotropic mechanical properties.In the radial direction, the aerogel showed great strength and resilience with a high reversible compression of 50% and stress retention of ~75% after 100 compression cycles.As for the axial direction, the aerogel was strong and robust with a high specific moduli of 325 m2/s2.When the mass ratio of C and M was 1∶1, the aerogel had a limiting oxygen index (LOI) as high as 31%, and reached a V-0 rating in UL-94 test.
