Flame Retardant and Thermal Degradation Properties of Flexible PVC Cable Material Treated with Fibrous Strontium Hydroxystannate
Fibrous Strontium hydroxystannate (SrSn(OH)6) was prepared by coprecipitation method using Sr(NO3)2 and Na2SnO3 as the raw material. The flame retardancy, mechanical and thermal degradation properties of the PVC samples treated with SrSn(OH)6 were investigated by the limiting oxygen index (LOI), tensile properties tests and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).When the loading level of SrSn(OH)6 was 10g, the LOI of the PVC sample treated with SrSn(OH)6 (PVC/SrSn(OH)6) increased 7.7%, its elongation decreased 41% than that of the blank PVC.Thermal degradation analysis results showed that the additions of these chemicals caused a decrese in the initial decomposition temperature, a reduction in weight loss, and an increase in the amount of char residues.
