In Situ React IR Spectroscopic Monitoring and Mechanistic Aspects of Fully Condensed Polysilsesquioxanes
Polyhedral octaphenylsilsesquioxane (OPS) was synthesized in a one batch, using phenyltrimethoxysilane (PTMS) as material and acid catalyst at room temperature.IR-orline detector, React IR TM 4000 coupled with 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) were used to monitor the liquid phase and identify the species in the liquid phase during the reaction.Significant improvements in synthetic efficiency (<24h) and yield (>90%) were observed compared with previous reports. The rapid hydrolysis (< 1h) of PTMS was detected and ladder-like structure species were identified as intermediates during the reaction process. In this way, the synthesis mechanism of the cage structure formation process during the hydrolysis-condensation reaction was delineated.
