An Environmentally-friendly Flame Retardant For Improving Fire Behavior and Biodegradation Performance of Polybutylene Succinate
The rapid degradation and combustible of biodegradable polybutylene succinate (PBS) largely restrict its applications, such as agricultural film and electrical materials. To address these two challenges, we successfully modified lignin by chemically grafting two flame retardant elements, phosphorous and nitrogen.Cone calorimetry results show that addition of 30 wt% modified lignin (CP-lignin) reduce the peak heat release rate and total heat release of PBS by 27 and 31%,respectively.Moreover, enzymatic degradation tests show that adding 10 wt% CP-lignin, the ratio of weight lossis reduced by about 33 %, and the ratio of weight loss is decreased gradually as the CP-lignin loading increase. This research provides a reasonably way to make full use of the lignin and to broaden the application of PBS in some special fields.
