Improving Thermal Stability of Lignin/PAN as a Novel Carbon Fiber Precursor by Dipping Boric Acid
To solve the challenge of high cost of carbon fiber, renewable biopolymers as the precursor are increasingly demanded and the research on fabrication and thermal stabilization and carbonization of these precursors has been initiated. This work reports a potential opportunity to improve thermal stability of lignin/PAN blend fibre as the carbon fiber precursor by dipping precursor into boric acid.As a result of the catalytic carbonization, the char yield of precursor was enhanced and the graphite-like structure transition appeared ealier.
