Effect of P/N/S-containing flame retardants on thermal and flame-retardant properties of epoxy resin

　　In this work, P/N/S-containing flame retardants D-P-ABZ and D-P-AZ were synthesized by DOPO, p-hydroxy-benzaldehyde (PHBA), 2-aminobenzothiazole (ABZ) and 2-aminothiazole (AZ), and used to flame retard epoxy resin (EP), respectively.It was found that both of them impart excellent flame retardance to EP, with 7.5 wt% loading of D-P-ABZ, epoxy thermoset passed a UL-94 V-0 rating, and got a LOI value of 29.6% and with the aid of D-P-AZ, EP/7.5% D-P-AZ passed UL-94 V-0 rating, and owned a LOI value of 31.4%.Meanwhile, they also played a positive role in inhibiting the release of heat and the production of smoke.Besides, the thermal behavior and flame-retardant mechanism of epoxy thermosetts were also studied.
