Synthesis of a Novel Phosphorus-Containing Char Foaming Agent and Its Application With APP in Flame Retardant PLA
A novel phosphorus-containing char foaming agent (PCFA) was synthesized through the polycondensation of bisphenolic acid-based monomer (DPM) 1 and phosphorus oxychloride (POCl3).Then, PCFA was combined with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) to enhance the flame resistance of poly (lactic acid) (PLA).It turned out that PLA/PCFA/APP composites exhibited excellent fire-resistance properties such as self-extinguishing behavior and extremely low heat release rates.The PLA/3.8PCFA/11.2APP composites could achieve LOI value of 27.3 % and pass UL-94 V0 rating.Cone tests showed that the residue weight reached 24.6 wt%.Investigation of the charred residues revealed that the condensed phase mechanism is mainly responsible for the efficient flame retardancy of PLA/PCFA/APP.
