Preparation of Intumescent Flame Retardant Poly(butylene succiate) Using NaSCN Intercalated Kaolinite as Synergistic Agent
The NaSCN Intercalated Kaolinite (K-NaSCN) was prepared and introduced into poly(butylene suceinate) (PBS) / intumescent flame retardants (IFR) by melt blending. The structure of K-NaSCN was characterized by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD).The flame retardance, thermal degradation and combustion properties of PBS composites were characterized by oxygen index (LOI) test, vertical burning (UL-94) test, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and cone calorimeter respectively. The results shows that the composite with the introduction of 5 wt% K-NaSCN and 20 wt% IFR into PBS exhibits excellent flame retardance, the limiting oxygen index of the composite is increased from 21.9% for the pure PBS to 40.3%, and passes the UL-94 V-0 rating with excellent antidripping properties. The residue content of 75PBS/25IFR/5K-NaSCN reaches 21.99 wt % at 700 ℃, which is 33.9 % higher than that of adding K, and has a good mechanical properties.
