Investigation on Flame Retardancy and Thermal Degradation of TPU/APP/BF Composites
A novel intumescent flame-retardant (IFR) system was introduced to enhance the flame retardancy and thermal degradation of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU).The effects of the IFR system for the flame retardancy of TPU were investigated by limited oxygen index (LOI), UL-94 test and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).The results indicated that the LOI value of TPU was increased from 21.6% to 30.1% and the UL-94 rating upgraded from no rating to V-0 (1.6 mm thick) when using 8wt% APP and 2wt% BF.The TGA curves showed that the IFR system could apparently enhance the thermal stability of TPU between 340-400 ℃ and favor the charring.Synergistic flame-retardant effects were found between ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and bamboo fibres (BF).
