An Empirical Research to Explore the Factors Affecting Adolescents Scientific Creativity
Creativity is a significant capability for scientific research. For adolescents, their potential scientific creativity is developing, while it already shows differences between individuals. This study explored the differences and the influential factors.Data was collected from 809 middle school students in Beijing.Based on whether they received a reward in adolescents science and technology innovation contest or not, data was collected from two groups: high creativity group (HCG) and the common group (CG).Results show that HCG shows more interest in science, which implies the internal motivation promotes more exploratory behaviors in science.Additionally, HCG favour reading books, viewing websites, reading papers on science, and participating in science club.In contrast, CG are inclined to like watching TV programs and listening to broadcast related to science.HCG students do better in observation, the ability of raising research questions in natural science, and academic achievements.Boys propose more research questions than girls in natural science, but they dont show significant high ability in observation and raising social scientific questions.Families of HCG make more communication in scientific topics, and could tolerate more mistakes of children.Individual and family environment factors both make contributions to the development of scientific creativity of adolescents.
