The Responsibility of Science Diplomacy for Society:The Story of the UK
The function performed by science and diplomacy are well studied, even average citizens have recognised by the society as a whole.The intersection area of science and diplomacy, namely science diplomacy still lacks attention.Actually, science diplomacy could be an effective way people can utilise to transform scientific advancement to make ourselves better off.Within a country, science popularisation links scientific community with wider society.In international community, science diplomacy could finish a grander task, which is to tie scientific community in one country with other societies.Besides, science diplomacy could also help to facilitate scientists and technicians to shoulder their social responsibilities.This paper will first discuss what science diplomacy is, secondly, the author will review the development of science diplomacy in the UK.Then the current political and administrative-setting that regulate British science diplomacy activities will be analysed.Last but not least, the lessons regarding how to bridge the gap between science community and the rank and files drawn from British science diplomacy story will be demonstrated.Further research in this area will also be discussed.
