Simulation of fresh drilling mud invasion and analysis of resistivity profile in sandstone formation
The effect of mud invasion is non-negligible in electric logging model construction and formation evaluation. In this paper, we develop a new mud invasion experimental system for the sandstone reservoir based on numerical simulation.Through the mud invasion experiments, we obtained the mudcake in different invasion times, further more, the porosity and permeability model of the mudcake is developed. Finally, the resistivity profile in sandstone reservoir with fresh drilling mud invasion is studied based on the experimental data. The results show that mudcake porosity and permeability decrease sharply as the invasion time increase, and finally reach a plateau. In addition, the invasion is mainly controlled by the mudcake when the porosity and permeability of the mudcake is low enough. The radial resistivity profile can be affected by sandstone physical properties, formation water salinity and mudcake parameters.
