Metal-coated lattice structures and their mechanical characterizations

  Due to the limitation of manufacturing technology, the previous common slender members are solid structures.With the consideration of 3D printing, this paper investigates the mechanical performances of slender beam in lattice structures with metallic coating for high-strength lightweight purpose.One lattice structure with different thickness coatings is studied for the mechanical stiffness and buckling load to evaluate the impact of thin-film coating, like the nickel-phosphorous (Ni-P) coating, on these characterizations.The simulated results reveal that the metal-coated slender members enhance their mechanical performance a lot.
