Mobile SNS Addiction and user continuance: an empirical investigation of WeChat

  Recent research suggests that users levels of technology addiction can influence their reasoned IT usage decisions by altering users belief systems.However,existing IS research on technology addiction is focused primarily on technology adoption;the distal effect of technology addiction on post-adoptive system use has received little attention to date.This study bridges this gap and incorporates technology addiction into technology continued use processes in the context of mobile social networking sites (SNS).Mobile SNS have become one of the most popular means of online social interactions.Recent statistics show that use of SNS can be addictive for some individuals, which can lead to some significant behavioral or psychological problems.This paper examines how users levels of addiction influence their continuance intention to use WeChat, as one of the most popular mobile SNS in China by distorting various systems perceptions.Our results indicate that the level of mobile SNS addiction augments users perceptions of perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, trusting beliefs and habit, whereas it has no impact on users satisfaction and loyalty.Theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.To the best of our knowledge, this research is the first study to examine the effects of mobile SNS addiction on user continuance.
