Effect of Jute Fiber Modification on Mechanical Properties of Jute Fiber Composite
In order to make jute fiber composite with optimum performance, fiber modification demands a special attention.Here, chemical treatments (alkaline, oxidation, scouting) were employed on the jute fibers to modify them first.Then, Jute fiber/epoxy composite was prepared with unidirectional jute fibers.The basic properties such as tensile strength, elongation at break of the composites were studied.Scanning electron microscope (SE M) images of treated and untreated jute fibers were analyzed to understand the influence of chemical modifications on the fiber.It was found that chemical treatment of jute fiber has significant impact on mechanical properties of jute fiber composites as well as the formation of voids in the composites.
