Effects of Nano-Silica Particle on the Properties of Phenolic Resin/Glass Fiber Composites
Glass fiber/phenolicresin composites (GFPCs) containing nano-silica were fabricated for improving their interlaminar fracture toughness.Mode Ⅰ and Ⅱ interlaminar fracture tests were conducted to evaluate the toughening effects of nano-silica on GFPCs.The results showed that all nano-silica-dispersed GFPCs laminates exhibited higher interlaminar fracture toughness without sacrificing their flexural and flame retardant properties.Notably, The addition of only 5% nano-silica could give 153% and 149% enhancement in Mode Ⅰ and Ⅱ interlaminar fracture toughness, respectively.
