Fabric Classification Using Three Dimensional Drape Model
The paper presents a method of fabric hand classification through the exploration of three dimensional (3D) drape models objectively.Fabric drape models were developed using windows kinect scanners and point cloud data were processed with code developed in Matlab software to extract drape indicators.Thirty-seven woved fabrics were divided into different classes based on their tactile feel of fabrics softness and stiffness hand as a ground truth.Objectively processed fabric drape models were hierarchicaly clustered to match the subjective clusters of fabric hand. Results revealed that fabric drape indicators were able to classify (objectively) the unknown woven fabric samples in the same manner as did the subjectively judged hand attributes with 81% matching accuracy when processed on same fabric samples. These results will be a better reference in fabric hand evaluation from its drape vision for application such as online shopping and computer simulations.
