Formaldehyde is a prevalent compound in indoors air pollution.Photocatalysis has proven to be amongst the most effective approach to eliminate formaldehyde. In this research, a low temperature treatment was developed to fix titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) on ramie fabrics to produce fabrics with formaldehyde elimination function. The treatment made the ramie fabric stiffer. The treated fabric was able to remove 77% of formaldehyde after 120min when the initial formaldehyde concentration was 4.4mg/m3.The maximum removal efficiency was achieved in the environment with a relative humidity of 50%.A higher relative humidity elicited reduction in the formaldehyde removal efficiency. These results indicate that the developed low temperature treatment can be used to produce textile products with efficient formaldehyde elimination function.
