An Investigation on Crashworthiness of Carbon-Glass Hybrid Composites

  Composite materials have attracted much attention because of their light weight and excellent energy absorption properties.Carbon fiber is most widely used in the composite where the above mentioned properties are required however, due to high price of carbon fiber, hybrid method should be taken into consideration.Therefore, in the present study, Carbon/glass hybrid composite tubes were designed and fabricated by using prepreg method.These tubes were divided into two groups (heated and non-heated) and finally experimented by quasi static compression test to find out their energy absorption capabilities.Results revealed that under heated and non-beated conditions, G4-C3-G4 and CFRP absorbed the highest amount of energy among others with a stable failure mechanism.
