Automated modal identification based on eigensystem realization algorithm

  The subject of automated operational modal analysis has attracted an increasing attention,especially in the field of civil engineering.In this paper,an automated modal identification methodology,based on eigensystem realization algorithm(ERA)and a multi-stage clustering strategy is proposed.Three crucial steps are addressed in this study.In the first phase,plenty of modal candidates containing all physical modes as well as spurious modes are identified from parametric models with different orders.Subsequently,the fuzzy C-means(FCM)clustering is employed to distinguish possibly physical modes from spurious modes.The hierarchical clustering is applied in the final stage to obtain the representative modes of the individual structural properties efficiently.No user-specified parameter is required to single out physical modes.A practical engineering example of modal estimation for the Zhaobaoshan Bridge in Ningbo,China,is utilized to verify the availability of the proposed method.
