Base-isolated building with new-type oil damper for long-period and huge ground motion
In recent years, the base-isolated building becomes popular in Japan, and it is built more than 4,000 buildings.Currently,it is studied the base-isolated building that is corresponded to long-period and huge ground motion. The problem under long-period and huge ground motion is that the displacement of the base-isolated floor becomes large during the ground motion and the building may collide with the retaining wall.In order to avoid colliding,it is necessary to control a displacement by increasing the number of oil dampers. However,it increases the acceleration of the upper floor of the building. Therefore,it isnt capable of exerting seismic isolation performance even if avoiding to collide during the huge ground motion. In other words,it is that the baseisolated building impairs seismic isolation performance for maintaining livability, household property and business continuity. As a solution of these problem,in Japan, development of the oil damper and the connecting mechanism is proceeded, which have damping performance both to control the displacement of building during frequent small-and medium-scale earthquakes, and to avoid colliding with the retaining wall during long-period and huge ground motion. This paper presents the oil damper and the connecting mechanism for the base-isolated building that combine displacement and velocity dependency developed in Japan recently,in order to respond to long-period and huge ground motion.
