Robustness analysis of performance-based plastic design method for CBFs equipped with SMA braces

  Shape memory alloys are gaining increasing attentions from earthquake engineering community,due to the superleastic property.Concentrically braced frames(CBFs)equipped with SMA braces are emerging as promising frame systems with high seismic resilience.Recently,an ad hoc performance-based plastic design method was developed for such structural system.As a further study,this paper aims to investigate the robustness of this seismic design method.In doing so,various performance targets were set in the design procedure based on the design basis earthquake(DBE)spectra,and then the resulted frames were subjected to a total of twenty seismic ground motions.The analytical results show that the designed frames always meet the performance targets very well.Therefore,this paper successfully indicated that the previously developed seismic design method has very satisfactory robustness.
