Seismic control of power transmission tower using SMA-spring TMD
Power transmission towers are important lifeline projects.Failures and collapses of power transmission towers were frequently observed in previous large earthquakes.To mitigate the vibration of power transmission tower subjected to earthquake loadings,a novel shape memory alloy tuned mass damper(SMA-TMD)is proposed and its seismic control effects on transmission tower are investigated.SMA is a class of alloys which are able to recover large deformation and dissipate energy.This study proposed a novel TMD that utilized SMA springs.The seismic performance of power transmission towers is investigated.This study shows the SMA-spring TMD is effective in mitigating seismic vibration.
