Analytical and experimental investigations of seismically isolated building using distributed parameter model

  After decades of development,base isolation technology has formed a relatively complete technical system.The application range of base isolation system has gradually extended from low-rise and middle-rise building structures to high-rise building structures.This paper aims at the determination of dynamic characteristics and seismic responses of base-isolated buildings using a distributed parameter structural model.The base-isolated cantilever Timoshenko beam is investigated as a simplified model of regular structures,which is expected to reflect the deformation characteristics of different types of structures and reasonably represent both to multi-story and high-rise structures.The overturning resistant performance and the limit of the height-width ratio are analyzed for base-isolated structures.The formula for calculating the limit value of the height-width ratio of isolated structure is deduced,and the influence of different parameters on this limit value is studied.Shaking table tests of a scaled 4-story steel frame model have been carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model,and the test results indicate that the anti overturning performance of the base-isolated structure degenerates with the increase of the height-width ratio.Furthermore,we can conclude that height-width ratio is not only related to the stiffness,damping and arrangement of the isolation layer,but also related to compressive stress of isolation bearing under the weight of structure.Increasing compressive stress of the isolation bearing under the self-weight of the structure can raise the limit value of the height-width ratio to a certain extent.
