Control of wind-induced vibration of a solar tower by tuned mass damper

Experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effectiveness of a tuned mass damper in suppressing wind induced vibration of a solar tower through aeroelastic model tests. The Eddy current damping was applied to the TMD designed in this paper. The important advantage of the proposed TMD is that it does not require any electronic devices and external power supplies.Whats more, the damping ratio of the TMD could be easily adjusted. The wind-tunnel tests results demonstrated the effectiveness of the tuned mass damper in reducing the vortex induced vibration of the tower. In particularly, the peak responses in the resonance wind speed region were reduced by 70%almost.
