Characteristic test of hybrid electromagnetic damper for cable vibration reduction
The cable members are constantly vibrated by the wind,causing shortening of cable life,fatigue failure,cable anchorage breakage,and anxiety of passersby.In this study,a hybrid electromagnetic damper with vibration control and energy harvest-ing function was proposed for efficient damping and maintenance of cable structures.The proposed electromagnetic damper is a hybrid type that combines the advantages of eddy current type and solenoid coil type.In order to evaluate the damping characteristics of the hybrid electromagnetic damper before the vibration damping performance evaluation,indoor test was carried out using shaking table.As a result,it was confirmed that the maximum damping force of hybrid electromagnetic damper approximates to the eddy current type electromagnetic damper,which is a passive device,as the amplitude and the frequency of the excitation are increased.In addition,it is confirmed that the damping force is superior to that of the conventional solenoid coil type electromagnetic damper.
