Experimental study of the effect of MR-damper on high-speed train bogie

A unique full-scale roller test is conducted on the high-speed train model CRH3 to investigate the effectiveness of the tuneable magneto-rheological(MR)damper on the dynamic behaviour of different segments of CRH3.The MR-dampers are installed in the secondary suspension system of the train. The train ran at eight speed levels from 80 to 350 km/h,while in each speed level different current inputs were applied to the MR-dampers.In this paper, the interaction of MR-dampers with bogies is studied. The dynamic responses of bogies are collected by a network of sensors, installed at different locations in bogies. The MR-dampers positively interact with the bogies such that the lateral displacement responses of bogies decreased when the MR-dampers tuned to a certain level of current input.Besides, the lateral acceleration response at the middle of side frame of bogie effectively diminished proportional with the MRdampers current input. However, the lateral acceleration response of the side frame of bogie(above the axle boxes)magnified when the current input of MR-dampers increased. Also, the vertical acceleration responses of side frame of bogies amplified by increasing the current input of MR-dampers.
