Absolute stress measurement in steel members using the LCR waves cross-correlation method

The absolute stress in structural steel members is an important parameter to judge the performance of structures.Traditionally, the stress is measured by establishing the stress monitoring system, which is not the absolute value. The longitudinal critically refracted(Lcr)wave has been regarded as the best candidate for stress measurement. In this study, the Lcr wave cross-correlation method is proposed for absolute stress measurement in steel members.Specifically, the Lcr wave time-of-flight(TOF)measurement formula is derived and the stress measurement method is proposed.A steel member is measured using the proposed method and the traditional peak value method. The results show that the cross-correlation method can accurately measure the Lcr wave TOF without filtering the noise signal, and the stress measurement results are better than the peak value method.
