Data Processing of Images Acquired by UAV for Bridges
The work refers on an initial campaign of image acquisition by UAV for railway bridges conducted in Italy. The correct treatment and processing of these images permit the collection of data regarding the bridge geometry and the defects affecting structural elements. In this respect, first the problem related to the transformation of images in a 3D cloud of points will be analyzed with respect to the correlation of the geometry errors with the UAV flight.Second, the difficulties related to the transformation of 3D point cloud models in a Building Information Modeling-BIM models-will be discussed in relation to six-cases of steel, reinforced concrete and masonry railway bridges. Finally, the reachable enhancement by the use of UAVs in the detection of bridges defects will be evidenced in comparison to classical techniques of bridge visual inspection. The features needed for images processed for defect extension evaluation will be discussed together with the methodology implemented in the own software DEEP – DEfect detection by Enhanced image Processing.
