Field implementation of image process based real-time bridge displacement monitoring using smart devices
Displacement measurement is one of the key methods of structural health monitoring strategies.Conventional displacement sensors have limitations in practical applications due to high cost and difficult installation procedures.Meanwhile,recent improvement of image sensors in smart devices can provide an opportunity to measure displacement with ease and low cost.In this study,bridge displacement monitoring was conducted using smart devices.On-site application and stability of the proposed system has been demonstrated through one day field measurement on a real in service bridge.To test the accuracy and viability,the displacement due to traffic and temperature obtained using the proposed system was compared with accurate displacement sensor.Careful comparison of the results demonstrates the significant potential of the proposed approach.
