Post-Earthquake seismic capacity estimation using displacement and acceleration measurement
Fast seismic assessment of a structure after an earthquake can facilitate recovery of operation and therefore improve resilience of the structure. For the facility that plays key roles of rescuing or refuge centers(such as hospitals, power facilities etc.)or high-value facilities(such as hightech factories, financial centers, etc.),immediate operation again right after disrupt due to an earthquake is critical. This study is to establish a prompt post-earthquake seismic evaluation method which uses real structural response of displacement and acceleration measurement during an earthquake. With the pre-earthquake capacity curve of the building ready, residual seismic capacity can be estimated using the residual roof drift ratio and stiffness. The proposed method is verified using a 6-story steel frame structure on a shaking table. The structure is damaged during a moderate earthquake and then collapsed during a severe earthquake.According to the experimental results, residual seismic capacity of the structure could be estimated reasonably using the proposed post-earthquake seismic evaluation method.
