Bridge structural damage detection by phase space method using two sensor measured responses
Nonlinear dynamic is a new method for structural damage detection. This paper presents a data-driven structural damage detection method in which only two sensor measured responses are needed. In this method, the moving mass is used to simulate a moving vehicle passing through a bridge and the structural vibration responses are measured at two random positions. The two time series are converted into space-domain by integrated phase space construction. The damage index was defined by the integrated phase space topology change(PTC)to locate the damage. In order to prove the feasibility and reliability of the method, the responses of a simply beam bridge under a moving mass are calculated by numerical simulation. The results show that this method can accurately identify the damage location and prove that the damage index PTC is a good indicator for structural damage location.
