Fatigue performance study for high strength steel wire in c able-stayed bridge using AE monitoring technology

In this paper, the fatigue performance of cable-stayed high-strength steel wire is studied.Fatigue properties of new high-strength steel wire, corroded high-strength steel wire and steel wire removed from real bridge are tested respectively. In the fatigue test process, three different monitoring methods, including strain gauge, displacement and acoustic emission signal monitoring, were used comprehensively. After the test,it was found that the acoustic emission sensor can timely and accurately capture the fatigue crack growth signal of the steel wire during the fatigue test.By analyzing this signal, the initiation and propagation process of fatigue cracks can be further analyzed; as the number of fatigue cycles increases, the number of acoustic emission signals to fatigue cracks is also gradually increasing. The amplitude of crack propagation signals obtained before fracture failure of high strength steel wire is about two times of that obtained by fatigue crack growth stage.Based on the monitoring data and fracture analysis, the prediction and location of fatigue failure of high-strength steel wire is carried out.
