Perspectives for studying deformation processes in largescale reinforced concrete structures on a special test stand

  Investigation of the behavior of complex structures in critical conditions is of great importance for solving the safety problems.Underestimation of these problems leads to human and material losses.One of the approaches to solving the problems of safe operation of buildings and engineering structures is associated with the use of automated deformation monitoring systems,which are based on the mathematical models that provide an adequate description of the condition of structures at pre-critical and critical stages of deformation.With this approach one can predict the time and location of critical states.The development and verification of such models is possible only in field experiments.For their implementation,we have designed a model structure capable of reflecting deformation processes in full-scale structures.Testing of the model structure was performed in a specially designed test stand.The use of this stand allowed conducting a series of experiments that included all stages of structure testing: elastic(defect-free)deformation,formation of defects,their evolution and interaction,and complete failure of the examined model.At each stage,the main(displacements and deformations)and diagnostic(eigenfrequencies,propagation of elastic waves along various trajectories,acoustic emission,and local stiffness characteristics)parameters were measured.Testing of the structure in the test stand provides necessary data for accurate identification and description of the main mechanisms responsible for evolution and propagation of damages in reinforced concrete structures.The diagnostic parameters measured at all stages of deformation can be useful in searching the most sensitive methods for detecting defects and their localization in structures and estimating their longevity.
