Analysis of structural strain responses of a long-span cable-stayed bridge using SHM data
Structural strain responses,generally induced by traffic,wind,temperature,etc.,can be used to evaluate the safety and serviceability of in-service bridges.Based on the one-year continuous monitoring strain data recorded by the structural health monitoring(SHM)system of Sutong Cable-stayed Bridge(SCB),a case study concerning the strain variation trend,and equivalent stress range is presented.In this case study,first of all,detailed analysis on the separated components of the raw strain data is conducted,including the slow variation trend and the fluctuation component.In the second step,rainflow counting is applied to obtain the stress range histograms,which are then used to calculate the equivalent stress range based on the lognormal fitting method.Finally,daily equivalent stress range and number of cycles is calculated using the one-year monitoring strain data.Results show that the strain variation trend of the bottom slab shows obvious synchronism with the mean temperature variation curve,while that of the bottom slab does not.In addition,the strain fluctuation component is mainly induced by the local vehicle axle loads.As to the daily equivalent stress range and stress cycles,the daily equivalent stress range and number of cycles of YB205 during the whole year are obviously larger than those of the other strain measurements,which means more attentions should be attracted to its fatigue performance.The addressed conclusions could provide references for the operational management and maintenance of similar bridges.
