Identification of the moving train loads on the railway bridge based on monitoring strain data
The moving train loads(MTLs)evolutionary parameters are important for the performance evaluation of the railway bridges, including the gross train weight, axle spacing, axle weights and train speed.Based on the recorded strain data,MTLs acting on a continuous steel truss railway bridge are identified in this work.According to the influence line theory, the integral area of the structural strain response, which is induced by unit force with the unit speed,is a constant.Hence, the gross train weight can be obtained in accordance with the integral area of strain responses.Meanwhile,a series of pulses, indicating the moments when the axles move through the fixed points, can be observed from the second derivative values of the structural strain responses. Then, the axle weights can be identified using the peaks of the second derivative values of the strain responses. The parameters of MTLs,including the gross train weight, axle spacing, axle weights and train speed, can be further obtained. The method is verified using the real-time strain data of a continuous steel truss railway bridge. Results show that the train speed, axle spacing and gross train weight, can be accurately identified in the time domain. However, only the approximate values of the axle weights could be obtained with the proposed method.
