Optimal sensor location for output-only system identification
In vibration based structural identification, uncertainty in identified parameters depend on the location of sensors.Hence, determining appropriate sensor locations becomes important in the experiment design stage. In this paper,a strategy is discussed for finding the optimal sensor locations for stiffness parameter identification using output-only data. These locations are optimal in the sense that the measured data will contain the maximum information, and hence lead to minimum uncertainty in the parameters identified from such data. The locations are obtained by optimizing the determinant of the Fisher Information Matrix(FIM).The approach is numerically validated by comparing against identification results, obtained using frequency domain decomposition coupled with a Bayesian model updating technique, for different sensor set-ups.
