Structural damage identification using a multi-modes fusion method
Bridge structures are constantly affected by the increasing load and harsh environment in operation stage. To assure the safety and minimize the maintenance cost,it is extremely necessary to understand the damage on bridge structures throughout the lifetime. The single mode method is widely used in the damage detection of structures with available measurements, however,it is difficult to accurately identify the damage. One of the key reasons is that the sensitivity of available damage indexes is different from mode to mode, and it is difficult to choose the proper mode for damage detection purpose. To efficiently solve these problems,a Multi-Modes Fusion Method(MMFM)is proposed in this paper. It uses the spectral power analysis to obtain every peak of the distribution in each signal channel. These values are used as the weight to fuse each modal displacement in MMFM.A bridge health monitoring experiment is designed with intact and damaged cased, and conducted to valid the proposed meth-od.The results show that: 1)proposed method can accurately indicate the damage without the modal selection, and 2)MMFM is more sensitive than the single mode method.
