Study of the Thermal Environment of Parking Lots of Shanghai in Summer

Based on the field measurement data and the outputs of 3Dmicroclimate simulation software (ENVI-met 4.1), this study focuses on a quantitative demonstration of the cooling effect of grass-planting brick, in comparison with other 4 familiar underlying surface materials (asphalt, pavement brick, cement, natural soil). An university parking lot paved by cement material is selected as the subject of the study, with the building up of five ENVI-met models which set the five materials mentioned above as the underlying surface module of the area, followed by comparing the simulation outputs with the field measurement data to verify the accuracy of the proposed model. The results suggest that the cooling effect of grass-planting brick is obvious at the daily temperature peak in summer, with the surface temperature and the mean radiant temperature of this material lowered by 7.03℃ and 6.17℃, compared with asphalt surface. This indicates that grass-planting brick can not only avoid overheating of traditional paving materials, but also adjust the environment radiant heat to human body.
