Analysis and Research on the Summer Microclimate of the Traditional Linpan Settlements in the Western Sichuan Province

As a crystallization of the traditional farming area in Sichuan, Linpan Settlements (Linpan) have been available for thousands of years in the southwest of China. It was the most representative rural settlement space and also a compound rural living environment in western Sichuan.Besides, it was also considered as a unique agroforestry ecosystem in the western Sichuan plain. For a long time, the natural conditions and the production and living needs of local residents in the Linpan have been adjusted to each other, forming a set of microclimate environment suitable for the local environment. With the development of new rural countryside, weve clearly realized that we must learn from the low-cost construction experience and passive energy-saving tactics of the traditional settlements to build an energy-saving, environmental protection and ecological sustainable new rural countryside. Therefore, 12 traditional Linpan in Sandaoyan Town, Pixian, Chengdu were selected and investigated in our research to identify the winter microclimate variation in Linpan, find out the relationship among the microclimate parameters (i.e., air temperature, light intensity, wind speed and relative humidity) and explore the impacts of tree distribution (surrounding, central, unilateral, and scattered) based on the scale of Linpan on summer microclimate. The results showed that the Linpan could not only create sound shading and cooling and bring about some humidification effects in summer, but had no significant effect on the wind speed.Only the air temperature difference of Linpan was regularly influenced by the scale of Linpan. The relative humidity, the light intensity and the wind speed were only affected by the canopy density and the vertical structure of plant community. The distribution pattern of the main trees in the Linpan had an obvious effect on the microclimate.Scattered patterns brought the optimal cooling effect temperature than other patterns in summer.
