Study on ecological operation of the Three Gorges Reservoir
Reservoirs play an important role in hydropower generation, flood control, navigation, and recreation. However, the regulation of reservoirs has an adverse impact on ecology when ecological requirements are neglected. This paper considers the ecological requirements and then establishes a reservoir optimization model which takes into account the ecological objectives and ecological constraints to derive ecological operating rule curves. With a case study of the TGR,the reservoir ecological operating rule curves are derived. The model provides feasible schemes for ecological reservoir operation. The average annual power generation and the assurance rate are increased by 1.06% and 2.50%, and the ecological benefits have been improved compared with that of conventional operating rule curves.
