Optimal capacity planning of renewable energy source-pumped storage-seawater desalination system

  As water scarcity is becoming a growing threat to the development of human beings, seeking effective solutions has become an urgent need.To make better use of water resources, renewable energy resources (RES)-pumped storage-seawater desalination (RPD) system is designed and implemented around the world.In this paper, an optimal capacity planning method for RPD system is introduced.At first, the configuration of the RPD system is clarified.Then the components of all costs and benefits are introduced for cost-benefit analysis.Afterwards, a function for determining maximum economic benefits of the RPD system is established, and the constraints are proposed based on various limitations.By using the method, the optimal maximum capacity of the RES and the pumped storage units in the system can be determined.A case study is introduced to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the method.At last, both merits and defects of the method are revealed.
