Renewables and energy interconnections: mutual facilitators
The recent development of renewable energy has raised concerns regarding its effective integration to the electrical grid in many countries. In that regard, energy interconnection, by developing transmission networks, is seen as an enabler of renewables development. On the other hand, renewables can also be a motivation to increase energy integration among countries. This paper, therefore, analyses how renewables can promote energy integration, and vice versa, and how existing and planned initiatives are contributing for this development.Furthermore, the development of renewables and interconnections potentially may change the worlds geopolitical landscape.
