Lightning attachment to lightning rods: a comparison between numerical models and observations in natural conditions
Lightning rods are currently used to offer a large protection against lightning to buildings.International lightning protection standards generally are built using the Electrogeometric Model EGM.This model allows to estimate the extent of the protected area given by the lightning rod, or any other LPS.Besides this old classical model, varieties of numerical models have been built in modern times,especially some more physical based on physics of leaders propagation.Several authors such like Dellera and Garbagnati, Berger and A(i)t Amar, Becerra and Cooray, have built variants based on electrical discharges physics, the so-called Leader Progression Model LPM.
