Discussion on the use of IEC lightning protection standards in the United States

摘要：

　　It is a misconception that IEC 62305 based lightning protection systems are not used in the United States.This paper identifies how IEC lightning protection standards arc used in the US and addresses some factors that may lead to the misconception.This paper addresses the role of the authority having jurisdiction or their designated representative in the selection of an applicable lightning protection standard.It also addresses the century-old relationship between some industries and the use of the NFPA lightning protection standard in applications where it has been proven to be of value where commercial and safety issues are important.
