Review of the Regionalization and Distribution Patterns of the Bryophytes in China
China, containing about one-tenth of the species of bryophytes, is one of the largest countries in the world.Topographically, there are three-step west-east staircase and two main rivers: the Yellow River and Yangtze River.Climatically, the tropical monsoon rain forest to tundra stretches from southeren to northern China. In 1958,Chen first proposed seven bryological regions in China.Over the last 40 years, several bryological expeditions to the different regions in China were undertaken. The new bryological data indicates that the original seven bryological regions should be extended ten.The distribution centers of the East Asiatic genera of bryophytes and the distribution routes of the bryophytes in China are also discussed.
