Creating Nutrition-Friendly Environment for the Healthy-Aging Elderly--Experience of Taiwan, From Theory, Policy to Practice
1 Background Driven by the improvement in living conditions, the advancement in medicine, the ageing population substantially increased, the gradual declination of fertility, and the extensions of human average life expectancy, it is inevitable that both the developed and developing countries were facing the trend in ageing population and population structure were dramatically stepping into the ageing society.Generally, the elderly was defined as over the age of 65.And with over 7 percent of elder population, it is called an ageing society.Taiwan reached this standard in 1993, elevated to 14 % in 2016, and quickly stepped into a super ageing society.As people growing old, having chronic diseases and deterioration in life quality will come along.And the society shall carry the heavier and heavier burden in long term care and medical expenditures.Therefore it is urgent that the society shall be prepared in postponing the societal pressure caused by the ageing population through maintaining elder peoples nutritional health and disease prevention.
