1 Executive Summary ·High blood pressure is the third biggest risk factor, behind smoking and diet, for premature death and disability in England.It affects more than 1 in 4 adults and is estimated to cost the NHS ￡2.1 billion each year.It has a particular impact on the elderly in the UK as it is a major causal factor for strokes and cardiovascular disease.
