Numerical Simulation Method of Long Electrode Electrical Prospecting for Monitoring Landslides Hydro-geologic Conditions

The Interaction of water and rock mass play a vital role to causes landslides disaster. The feasibility and practicability of electrical prospecting in the shallow hydro geological monitoring of long electrode source landslide in landslide weak zone are discussed, providing necessary basic data for landslide hazard prediction. At first, we set out to explore the DC electric field distribution characteristics based on the theory of the long electrode source in the non-homogeneous conducting medium. The total potential and abnormal potential, which was called primary potential and secondary potential, was adopted to avoid indelibility eliminating the singularity of the source with higher-order basis function methods. Then, we analyze the responses in homogeneous half-space using finite element with non-structural multiple meshes method. The results show that the long electrode, both survey line along the horizontal ground and survey line along perpendicular direction, has obvious potential abnormality strength over the point source. When the long electrodes go through the inhomogeneous conductive medium, every electrodelength according homogeneous conductive medium thickness is regarded as an independent power source to simulate electric field features with using multi-grid technique and finite element numerical method, and then the total potential is calculated with add every electrode sources. In order to determine whether the long electrode source electrical prospecting can effectively monitor the electrical structure properties changes of the landslide, we designed a geophysical model consisting of three layers with a certain sand gravel overlay between the top clay layer and base bedrock. Then we assume the sand gravel layer is becoming significantly lower resistivity from high resistivity due to the water physical chemistry influence. The numerical simulation results of a survey line along landslide ground and perpendicular at a certain distance from source show that the change of hydro-geological conditions in the middle layer can lead to obvious abnormal characteristics under the action of long electrode source. This paper demonstrates that monitoring the changes of hydro-geological conditions with the long electrode source electrical prospecting method is practical and effective form onitoring landslides Hydro-geologic conditions.
