Three-dimensional Topographic Responses in Magnetotelluric Modelling Using Comsol Multiphysics
The topographic response in magnetotelluric data is important for interpretation. We model and study the 3D topographic response of MT data by using Comsol. We verified the accuracy of the results from Comsol with analytical solutions for 1D and 2D models. We tested the sensitivity of MT data for conductive anomalies in different depth. The sensitivity of MT data is decreased when the depth of the conductive anomaly is greater. Also, the reflection of anomalous body in TM mode is clearer than in TE mode. The apparent resistivity curve is greatly affected by topography.
